Morning Market Report. Charlie Platform. August 26, 2026.

The broader crypto market is pulling back across the board, with total market capitalization down 3.5% over the past 24 hours to $2.65 trillion, while Bitcoin holds up relatively better than most altcoins.

Bitcoin is trading at $78,497, down 1.1% on the day. The crowd is nearly split, with 50.6% of leveraged traders positioned long, which reflects genuine uncertainty rather than a one-sided bet. The fee that traders betting on further gains are paying to hold those positions annualizes to around 10.5%, a moderately elevated level suggesting some optimism is still being priced in. Over the past hour, forced closures of long positions totaled roughly $626,000, notably larger than the $96,000 in forced short closures, meaning it is the bulls who have been caught off guard in recent moves.

Ethereum sits at $2,450, down 1.2%. A larger majority of leveraged traders, 70.2%, are positioned long, and similar forced long closures of around $509,000 in the past hour suggest those crowded bullish bets remain vulnerable to quick flushes. XRP is the hardest-hit major today, falling 4.5% to $1.41, with 70.7% of leveraged traders long and over $404,000 in forced long closures last hour compared to just $8,500 on the short side. Solana dropped 3.1% to $96.45, with 67.5% of traders leaning long and a similar pattern of lopsided forced closures favoring longs.

On the flow side, Bitcoin spot ETFs recorded $314 million in fresh inflows yesterday, extending a seven-day consecutive inflow streak totaling $2.57 billion. That institutional appetite remains a notable counterweight to the price weakness seen in the broader market. Bitcoin dominance has climbed to 59.2%, meaning capital continues to concentrate in Bitcoin relative to the rest of the market. The Fear and Greed index reads 65, still in Greed territory, though that reading sits in contrast to today's price declines.

Across the full market over the past 24 hours, roughly $249 million in leveraged long positions were forcibly closed versus $52 million on the short side, confirming that the selling pressure has disproportionately hit those who were betting on gains. Market regime indicators currently point to a neutral-to-cautious environment with a downward trend and participation concentrated in very few coins, while volatility remains low. The VIX, a measure of expected turbulence in traditional equity markets, is at 15.7, indicating no significant stress signal from that side.

We are also tracking internal heat readings for BTC (0.65 out of 1) and ETH (0.72 out of 1), which we measure as a way to monitor how stretched conditions might be. These are measurements we are building over time and are not yet treated as actionable signals. Their reference date for evaluation is September 22.

Worth watching today: whether the ETF inflow streak continues given the price softness, whether the crowded long positions in XRP and ETH ease or face further forced closures, and whether Bitcoin dominance holds above 59% as altcoins continue to underperform.
