Morning Market Report. September 10, 2026.
The broader crypto market is drifting lower with moderate pressure across the board, total market cap down 3.6% in 24 hours to $2.68 trillion, while the overall trend remains firmly pointed downward with very few coins holding their ground.
BTC trades at $78,455, off 0.31% on the day. A slim majority of leveraged traders (57.8%) are positioned for a rise, and fresh bullish leveraged bets are being added. Those paying to hold those bets are currently paying the equivalent of 6.6% per year, a moderate cost that signals mild optimism but not extreme froth. In the past hour, short-side bets worth roughly $154k were forcibly closed, outnumbering long-side closures by about 16 to 1, meaning recent price movement squeezed bearish traders more than bullish ones.
ETH sits at $2,477, down 0.63%. A large 73.5% of the crowd is positioned long, though leveraged activity is relatively quiet right now. Short positions worth around $98k were liquidated in the past hour versus $22k on the long side.
XRP is the day's underperformer among these four, sliding 1.6% to $1.393. Notably, traders paying fees here are those betting on a decline, at a rate of 7.6% per year, meaning the leveraged crowd is split with a meaningful short contingent despite 71% of positions being technically long. This contradiction is worth watching.
SOL dropped 1.42% to $101.96. Similar to XRP, those paying the fee here are the bearish bettors (10.7% annualized), yet new bullish leveraged bets are being added. Around $24k in short positions were cleared in the past hour.
On flows, Bitcoin ETFs recorded an outflow of roughly $100.7 million yesterday, extending a two-day outflow streak, even though the rolling seven-day total still shows net inflows of $839 million. That short-term reversal of institutional money is worth noting in the current context. Sentiment reads at 69, technically in "Greed" territory, which sits in tension with a market that is technically in a bear trend. Across all leveraged markets in the past 24 hours, long-side bets that were forcibly closed totalled about $278 million, more than double the $106 million in closed short bets, meaning bullish leveraged traders absorbed most of the pain.
The VIX, a measure of expected turbulence in traditional stock markets, reads 16.46, which is relatively calm and not flagging unusual stress from that direction.
As a housekeeping note, we are currently measuring internal heat scores for BTC (0.56 out of 1) and ETH (0.71 out of 1). These are observations we are tracking for our own analysis and are not yet validated as reliable signals. A fuller picture is expected around September 22.
Today, the things worth watching are whether ETF outflows extend into a third consecutive day, whether the crowd's high long exposure on ETH and XRP becomes a source of cascading liquidations if prices dip further, and whether the disconnect between the "Greed" sentiment reading and the bearish market regime begins to resolve in one direction.
