Morning Market Report. September 28, 2026.

The broader crypto market is drifting quietly lower across the board, with the total market cap down around 4.6% in the last 24 hours while price action remains flat and directional momentum is absent.

BTC is trading at $83,435, down 1.2% on the day. Just over half the leveraged crowd is positioned for a rise, and the fee that traders betting on higher prices pay to those betting against them has flipped slightly negative, meaning short-side bettors are currently the ones earning that fee. Over $5.6 million in bullish leveraged positions were forcibly closed in the past hour alone, compared with only $847k on the short side, suggesting the recent drift lower has been catching overleveraged bulls off guard.

ETH sits at $2,654, down 1.6%, with 73% of the leveraged crowd leaning long. New bullish leveraged positions are actively being added despite the price decline, and the fee paid by those bettors is currently neutral at zero. Over $1 million in long positions were liquidated in the last hour, which is worth watching as the crowd is increasingly one-sided.

XRP is at $1.498, down 1.35%, with 71% of leveraged traders positioned long and the fee they pay running at an annualized 3%. New long leveraged positions continue to accumulate here as well, making this one of the more crowded setups on the board right now.

SOL is holding up relatively better at $120.16, off just 0.75%, with a calmer leveraged positioning picture. Still, over $1.15 million in long positions were wiped out in the past hour versus only $55k on the short side, so the liquidation skew is notably lopsided.

On flows, Bitcoin spot ETFs have seen inflows every single day for the past seven days, with yesterday bringing in $134.5 million and the seven-day total reaching nearly $3 billion. That sustained institutional demand is running in contrast to the cautious price action. The Fear and Greed index sits at 74, firmly in Greed territory, while stock market volatility as measured by the VIX is low at 14.87, reflecting a calm macro backdrop.

Across the full market, long liquidations in the last 24 hours totaled roughly $144 million versus $101 million on the short side, with BTC and ETH longs accounting for about $59 million of that combined. Bitcoin dominance has risen to 58.7%, meaning capital continues to concentrate in BTC relative to the rest of the market, and the breadth of assets participating in any upside remains very narrow.

We are also running an internal heat measurement on BTC and ETH, which currently reads as moderate. This is a measurement we track over time and carries no confirmed predictive edge, so we note it for context only.

What to watch today: the continued one-sided long crowding in ETH and XRP, the gap between strong ETF inflows and softening spot prices, and whether hourly long liquidations in SOL and ETH continue to outpace short liquidations by this margin.
