Morning Market Report. Charlie Platform. October 21, 2026.

The broader crypto market opened Wednesday in a steady upward mood, with total market capitalization rising 1.5% to $2.79 trillion and most major coins posting moderate gains across the board.

Bitcoin sits at $82,797, up 1.2% in 24 hours. Roughly 60% of leveraged traders are positioned for further upside, and the fee that bullish leveraged traders pay to hold their positions stands at 5.1% annualized, which is moderate and not alarming. Leverage is not piling up aggressively. Over the past hour, long-side forced closures slightly outpaced short-side ones, though both figures are small. On the ETF side, yesterday saw a modest $6.7 million outflow, yet the trailing seven-day total remains solidly positive at $291.6 million, so one day of outflow does not break the broader inflow picture. Bitcoin's share of total crypto market value is 59.5%, reflecting continued dominance.

Ethereum trades at $2,447, up 1.95%. The crowd is heavily tilted long at 73%, and the bullish fee is 5.6% annualized. What stands out here is that approximately $576,000 worth of long positions were forcibly closed in the past hour, a notably larger flush than on BTC, worth keeping an eye on if that number keeps climbing.

XRP is at $1.333, up 2.3%, with 71.7% of the crowd long. The fee paid by bullish leveraged traders is elevated at 11% annualized, meaning that holding leveraged long bets here is meaningfully more expensive than on BTC or ETH. No short-side forced closures were recorded in the last hour.

Solana trades at $106.23, up just over 1%. Unusually, the fee here is negative at minus 4.6% annualized, meaning it is currently the traders betting on a price drop who are paying to hold their positions. That reflects heavier short-side leverage in the derivatives market, even as the crowd remains 71.8% long. Nearly $313,000 in long positions were forcibly closed in the past hour, the largest hourly figure among the four coins today.

Broader context. The fear and greed index reads 63, firmly in greed territory. Across all derivatives in the past 24 hours, short-side forced closures ($183 million) more than doubled long-side ones ($81 million), which means the overnight move caught more bearish traders off-side than bullish ones. The stock market volatility index VIX sits at 17.3, indicating calm conditions in traditional markets. The overall regime signal points to a strong uptrend with broad participation and elevated volatility.

What to watch today. Monitor whether ETH and SOL hourly forced closure figures remain elevated or settle down, as persistent numbers there could indicate instability in leveraged positioning. XRP's elevated bullish fee is worth tracking since high holding costs can dampen enthusiasm for long bets over time. The single-day ETF outflow on BTC is not a concern on its own, but a consecutive run of outflows would be worth noting. Finally, our internal heat measurement for BTC and ETH scores 0.57 and 0.53 respectively on a zero-to-one scale. This is a measurement we track over time rather than a confirmed signal, so treat it as context rather than a conclusion.
