What exactly happened?
Anthropic, the company behind the AI assistant Claude, filed an S-1 registration statement with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Monday, October 26, according to crypto media. This is a formal step toward an initial public offering (IPO, meaning the company's first listing on a stock exchange). According to CryptoSlate, the firm is seeking a Nasdaq listing under the ticker ANT, with the offering set to be led by Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley.
An important note right at the outset: this information comes from secondary crypto sources (CryptoSlate, Kryptomagazín). We have not independently verified the S-1 document directly from the SEC database, so we treat the details (ticker, exchange, and lead banks) as probable, not confirmed.
An S-1 is a document in which a company discloses its financial data and risks to potential investors for the first time. Publishing an S-1 does not mean the shares are already trading, but that the company is preparing for it.
How high is Anthropic valued?
According to Kryptomagazín, a valuation of up to $2 trillion is being discussed in connection with the IPO. CryptoSlate states that crypto traders on prediction markets value Anthropic at close to $1.9 trillion. This is a market estimate derived from trading, not an official price set in the IPO. The final valuation at the time of listing is not yet known.
Here too, the figure of around $2 trillion is an extraordinarily high claim that rests solely on crypto media. No primary regulatory document independently confirms this valuation.
| Item | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| S-1 filing date | October 26 | Kryptomagazín, CryptoSlate |
| Exchange / ticker | Nasdaq / ANT | CryptoSlate |
| Lead banks | Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley | CryptoSlate |
| Valuation estimate (prediction markets) | approx. $1.9 trillion | CryptoSlate |
| Mentioned valuation | up to $2 trillion | Kryptomagazín |
Profit or loss? The data seemingly contradicts itself
Here we need to separate two different figures. CryptoSlate states that Anthropic reported a quarterly operating profit in its filing. Kryptomagazín, on the other hand, mentions in its headline that the firm lost 80.7 billion over half a year.
These two claims need not contradict each other: a quarterly operating profit and a total loss over a longer period (affected, for example, by one-off items or financing-related costs) can coexist. We do not unambiguously verify the exact methodology, period, and currency for the 80.7 billion figure from the published materials, so we treat it as a figure cited by Kryptomagazín, not as a confirmed breakdown of the company's results. The S-1 document itself is the primary source that will settle this.
Why are some warning of a "bubble peak"?
CryptoSlate quotes an investor according to whom Anthropic's IPO could mark the peak of the AI bubble. This is an opinion, not a proven fact. Historically, large, heavily publicized IPOs in a given sector are sometimes associated with a later cooldown, but that is an observation, not a rule or a prediction. charliedesk does not give buy or sell recommendations. We note that such a warning was voiced, and leave it to readers to weigh it against the data.
What does this have to do with crypto markets?
The valuation of around $1.9 trillion is not set by the exchange, but by trading on prediction and derivatives markets. According to The Defiant, the OKX exchange offered a product with leverage of up to 10x tied to Anthropic's valuation after the IPO filing. This is cash-settled exposure (settled in cash) intended for eligible traders in the European Economic Area. Importantly, these traders do not receive shares or an IPO allocation, only a bet on the valuation's development with a share-adjustment mechanism designed to preserve the position's value.
In other words: exposure to Anthropic via OKX is not the same as owning shares. It is a speculative derivative on a number.
And what about the report of AI agents breaching Anthropic's systems?
A separate story was described by Decrypt. The startup Cathedral, founded according to Decrypt by former DOGE staffers, claims that its AI agents found ways into Anthropic's sales, HR, and IT systems, via third-party software, in under 12 hours.
We present this information as Cathedral conveyed it through Decrypt. We do not verify independent confirmation from Anthropic nor the detailed scope of what exactly was "found" from the available materials. It is a one-sided claim that warrants caution.
What to watch next
- The S-1 document itself directly in the SEC database, which will confirm (or refute) the ticker, exchange, and lead banks that so far come only from crypto media.
- The final valuation and price range at the moment of the actual Nasdaq listing (not yet set).
- Specific financial figures directly from the S-1, especially the profit and loss breakdown, to clarify the discrepancy between the quarterly operating profit and the mentioned half-year loss.
- Whether and how Anthropic responds to the startup Cathedral's claim of access to internal systems.
charliedesk is treating this as a developing story. We will compare the figures and dates against what is ultimately stated officially in the SEC documents.
