Charlie Morning Market Report. August 29, 2026.

The broader crypto market is under mild but broad selling pressure this Saturday morning, with the total market cap down 5.5% in 24 hours to $2.63 trillion, while prices across all major coins are in the red.

BTC trades at $77,668, down 2.8% on the day. The crowd is slightly leaning long, with 54% of tracked derivative traders positioned for a rise, and those bets carry an annualized fee of roughly 10.5% paid by the bulls to the bears, the highest among the four coins today. In the past hour, long-side forced closures outpaced short-side ones ($48,943 vs. $26,016), meaning some bullish leveraged positions were caught off guard by the move down. Over the full 24 hours, more than $132 million in BTC long positions were forcibly closed, a notable flush.

ETH sits at $2,438, down 2.1%. Crowd positioning here is notably skewed, with 71.9% of tracked traders leaning long. That kind of one-sided setup means the crowd is broadly exposed if prices continue lower. ETH long liquidations over 24 hours exceeded $76 million.

XRP dropped 3.4% to $1.383, with 71.1% of tracked traders also positioned long. Short-side forced closures in the past hour were zero, suggesting bears are not actively pressing with leverage right now.

SOL is at $103.87, down 2.4%, with 64.6% of tracked traders leaning long. The past hour saw $12,532 in long liquidations versus just $5 on the short side.

On flows, US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded a single-day outflow of $168.5 million yesterday, breaking a prior inflow streak and starting a new one-day outflow streak. The 7-day cumulative figure remains positive at $1.87 billion, so the longer window still shows net institutional interest, but the most recent day reversed that direction.

The fear and greed index sits at 68, still in "Greed" territory, which is worth noting given the price declines. Market breadth is very narrow, meaning gains (or in this case, losses) are concentrated rather than spread evenly across many assets, and the overall market regime is pointing downward. Traditional market volatility as measured by VIX is calm at 14.43, so there is no sign of stress spilling in from equity markets at this moment.

We are also tracking an internal heat measurement for BTC (score 0.38 out of 1) and ETH (0.46 out of 1). These are observational readings without a confirmed forecasting track record, so we flag them as something we are monitoring, not as a signal of anything specific. A verdict date for this measurement is set for September 22.

Today it is worth watching whether ETF flows recover or whether yesterday's outflow extends, how the heavily long-skewed crowds in ETH and XRP behave if prices continue softening, and whether total market cap stabilizes around current levels or resumes its slide.
