Morning Market Report. October 3, 2026.
The broader crypto market is drifting quietly lower this Saturday morning, with total market capitalization down 3.1% over the last 24 hours to $2.89 trillion, while the overall trend regime continues to point downward and participation across altcoins remains very narrow.
Bitcoin is trading at $84,567, down 0.68% on the day. Just over half of leveraged traders (54.8%) are positioned long, and the fee that bullish leveraged bets pay to bearish ones is running at a modest 2.6% annualized, suggesting no extreme crowding in either direction. In the past hour, long-side leveraged positions worth roughly $115,000 were forcibly closed versus only $31,600 on the short side, meaning bulls took the heavier hit. Over 24 hours, Bitcoin long liquidations totalled $76 million. ETF flows remain a mild positive signal: $31.7 million came in yesterday, and the 7-day total stands at $408 million across two consecutive days of inflows.
Ethereum is at $2,676, off 1.61%. Nearly 75% of leveraged ETH traders are leaning long, yet the fee those bulls pay is essentially zero (0.1% annualized), which means the market is not yet charging a premium for that bullish skew. Over 24 hours, $70.8 million in ETH long positions were wiped out, second only to Bitcoin in absolute terms.
XRP trades at $1.485, down 1.12%, with 73% of leveraged traders positioned long. Notably, the fee flow here runs slightly in favour of bulls (bearish bets are paying longs a small rate of 2.2% annualized), which reflects a market where short sellers are willing to pay to stay short. Solana sits at $118.91, down 0.95%, with 65.5% long positioning. SOL shows the most unusual reading today: the fee bearish bettors pay to stay short is running at 7.6% annualized, indicating that short positions are expensive to hold right now and that this dynamic is worth monitoring closely.
Sentiment and broader context: The Fear and Greed index reads 67, in "Greed" territory, which sits in tension with a market that is technically in a downward trend. Bitcoin dominance is at 58.7%, meaning BTC continues to hold its share while altcoins shed value. Stock-market volatility (VIX) is calm at 15.3, so there is no obvious external shock driving today's weakness. Across all coins in 24 hours, long liquidations ($324 million) meaningfully outpaced short liquidations ($239 million), so it has been a tougher session for those holding leveraged bullish bets. We also measure an internal heat score for BTC (0.41) and ETH (0.47) on a scale where higher means more stretched, but this is a measurement we track over time rather than a directional signal on its own.
What to watch today: The gap between a Greed reading of 67 and a confirmed downtrend is worth keeping an eye on, as sentiment and price direction do not currently agree. The fee dynamic in SOL (short holders paying a significant premium) is an unusual data point that could shift quickly. ETF inflow continuity into a third day would be a meaningful observation if it holds. Leverage across all four coins is described as calm for now, so any sudden spike in liquidations or a change in that fee structure would be the clearest data point to note before the weekend closes.
