Morning Market Report. Sunday, October 4, 2026.
The market opened the week in a quiet, sideways mood with no major moves in either direction across the board.
Bitcoin is trading at $84,765, up just 0.24% over the past 24 hours. Slightly more than half of leveraged traders (55%) are positioned for further gains, and the fee that bullish traders pay to hold those positions overnight sits at 1.9% annualized, which is a calm and unremarkable level. No significant forced liquidations hit either bulls or bears on Bitcoin in the past hour.
Ethereum is at $2,691, up 0.57%. The crowd here leans heavily bullish, with nearly 74% of leveraged positions betting on a rise, and the overnight fee for those bulls has climbed to 3.3% annualized. That one-sided positioning is worth noting: in the last hour, short sellers on Ethereum were forced out of about $57,000 worth of positions, while long-side liquidations were smaller at around $15,000. Heavy one-sided crowds can make a coin sensitive to sudden reversals if price moves against them.
XRP sits at $1.4875, barely changed at plus 0.2%. Seventy percent of the crowd is long, yet the data also shows fresh leveraged bets on a price decline are being added, which is an unusual split worth monitoring. The fee bulls pay is elevated at 4.8% annualized. About $1,500 in long positions were forcibly closed in the past hour.
Solana leads the group today at $120.32, up 1.21%. Around 64.5% of traders are positioned long, and the fee for holding those bullish bets is the highest of the four coins at 5.9% annualized. In the past hour, roughly $31,000 in short positions were liquidated, suggesting a mild upward push caught some bearish traders off guard.
On broader market flows, Bitcoin spot ETFs recorded $31.7 million in net inflows yesterday, extending a two-day run of positive flows. Over the past seven days, cumulative ETF inflows total $408 million, which points to continued institutional interest even as price moves remain modest. Bitcoin's share of the total crypto market sits at 58.6%, reflecting its ongoing dominance over altcoins.
The overall market picture is cautious but not fearful. The Fear and Greed index reads 65, in "Greed" territory, though the total crypto market cap fell 2.36% over 24 hours despite most top coins edging slightly higher, suggesting weakness in smaller coins beneath the surface. Volatility across markets is compressed right now, meaning prices are moving in a tight range, and conditions like this historically precede a larger directional move, though the data does not tell us which way. The traditional equity volatility gauge (VIX) is at a relaxed 15.3, signaling no stress in broader financial markets.
Two things to keep an eye on today: Ethereum's heavily one-sided positioning means that if price dips, a cascade of forced long liquidations is plausible, so watching how ETH holds its current level is relevant. For XRP, the combination of a bullish crowd and fresh bets being placed on a decline at the same time is an unusual tension that may resolve with a clearer directional move. Finally, our internal heat scores for BTC (0.35) and ETH (0.43) are measurements we track to gauge potential overheating, but these are observational tools only and not signals for any action.
